Today was very different!

I learned that Mary and her husband Sean have 9 acres of land in Wisconsin. It’s very different there than on the ship, for sure! They grow some flowers, herbs, and veggies there, and tobacco. Mary is also a honey bee keeper, she has 3 hives - they are named Voyager, Deep Space 9, and Enterprise. Today I learned that bees live all winter safely tucked away in their hives, living on the honey they collected all summer. Mary just has to make sure they have enough food (if not, they get sugar, lucky ducks!) and she wraps a protective blanket around the hives. We also talked a lot about what it means to be good stewards of the land, and how they are working to restore it back to its original prairie.

Here’s a pretty sunset looking down from the top of their hill:

Tomorrow I will be setting out to meet my next host. I'm sad to be leaving, but excited to see where I am going next!
