I learned that one of the big deals about winter on the farm is wood. Cutting wood, hauling wood, chopping wood, bringing it in the house, putting it in the stove and then taking the ashes out. Dawn’s oldest son used to joke that he was thirteen before he realized his name wasn’t Get Wood. The mister handles most of the wood work, but Dawn occasionally helps bring in the smaller pieces. Rupert, Althea and I went out to see how it was done.

The Mister has two of these big, orange tractors. He uses them for all kinds of work on the farm. He cuts the wood and puts it into the bucket on the front of this one to bring it to the yard.

Once he gets a big pile of it, he cuts it into shorter lengths to fit into the stove.

Then it gets put into the wheelbarrow and pushed to the house. You can just almost see the green wheelbarrow in this last photo. The grandsweeties liked to ride in the wheelbarrow when they were little. I can see why. It’s fun!
