Today we visited Carew Castle. Carew is five miles from where I am staying and has a tidal estuary running alongside, this enabled supplies to keep flowing to and from the sea. It was inhabited as a home but also a garrison for most part of its history. This castle dates back to the 11th century and some think even earlier. Yes, it is haunted (although my hostess hasn’t experienced anything, her friend did).

Presently its owned by the National Park and has a visitor centre, gift shop and tea room. Throughout the summer many events take place including re-enactments from “The Sealed Knot” and a Viking settlement. There several rooms still habitable including the Great Hall.

I quickly made friends with two Shetland ponies… once they realized that I wasn't edible! Eek!
